Fred Waswa

Founder and Group CEO, Octagon Africa
Fred Waswa is the Founder and Group Chief Executive Officer of Octagon Africa Financial Services Limited, a leading financial services firm specializing in pension scheme administration, actuarial services, insurance broking and professional training across Kenya, Uganda and Zambia. With over 30 years of experience in the pensions and financial services industry, including more than 20 years in senior leadership, Fred is a seasoned pension expert and a respected voice in the retirement benefits sector. He has played a significant role in the development and advancement of Kenya’s pension industry, including contributing to the formulation of the Retirement Benefits Authority regulations and supporting initiatives that strengthened governance, compliance and professional standards within the sector. Throughout his career, Fred has held senior positions across the insurance and pensions industry, including serving as the first Area Pensions Principal Officer for Standard Chartered Bank in East Africa. He was also a Co-Founder and Executive Director of Kingsland Court Trusts and Benefits Services Limited, where he contributed to the establishment and development of industry structures that enhanced compliance management and representation within the retirement benefits sector. Fred is a certified trustee, trainer and examiner and has extensive experience as a speaker and thought leader, having presented on pensions, employee benefits and retirement planning at various local and international forums. His expertise has been featured across professional platforms in Africa and internationally, including industry conferences and pension workshops. He is also the author of the Retirement Benefits Handbook, published in 2015, and continues to contribute to conversations shaping the future of retirement benefits, pensions and financial security in Africa.
